Ritalin: The Big ADHD Problem
19th April 2006
I know of a mother who put her child on Ritalin because “he couldn’t study”. I wasn’t sure if she was joking or just plain out of her mind. A recent report has confirmed further the research that I have gathered in readings. Let me quote Mind Your Body, a supplement of the Straits Times, April 19th, 2006.
“In the past seven years, there have been 51 deaths among children and adults taking drugs for ADHD… these dugs can raise blood pressure and heart rate…”
“Dr. Ong cautioned that medication use alone cannot sustitute for therapy and behavior management.”
Parents who are not yet aware of the reality of ADHD is this - everyone is ADHD depending on their state. It is a real physiological reaction. If you want to help shift states, you need to think fast, act flexibly and moderate emotional states in other people through the use of effective therapeutic approaches, not medication that has side effects.
If you want to learn a really powerful way of shifting your child’s states, there are two pre-requisites: (1) your beliefs about your children must change, (2) your own behavior toward them must change. Then, if you learn all the various strategies in NLP, you should be better able to manage your children woh may have ADHD.
