Important Note!  Home schooling is one of the options available for meeting the state’s compulsory attendance law, Section 167.031, RSMo. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education does NOT regulate or monitor home schooling in Missouri. Neither the State Board of Education nor the Department have authority to issue regulations or guidelines concerning home schooling. Nonetheless, we receive many questions from parents and educators about this topic. The documents and resources listed below are intended to answer the most common questions about home schooling.

Arizona, which has more than 32,000 children being home schooled, including almost 13,000 in Maricopa County, requires parents only to file an affidavit promising to teach reading, writing, math, science and social studies. There’s no mountain of paperwork, no army of bureaucrats looking over their shoulder
Personally I think it’s an interesting decision why parents choose to homeschool. The fact is Arizona has a large enough community to sustain this, and I think it is a powerful testimony to the home schooling movement across the world.

Over the last few years, brain research has been so rife that some of it that has turned popular has become obsolete for a very long time. We know, however, that there are some basic truths about the brain we need to know in order to help our children develop.Â
- Neurons can grow. Brain cells, once thought to never regenerate, now apparently do. Research continues to support the idea that stimulation of the brain helps faciliate the growth and development of brain cells.Â
